In the year 2205, a skilled sage named Saniwa possesses the unique power to infuse life into lifeless objects. However, an evil force is determined to travel through time and alter history forever. Only the Saniwa and their powerful animations, the personified historical Japanese swords, can thwart their mission. Touken Ranbu: Hanamaru follows the story of Yamatonokami Yasusada, Souji Okita's cherished uchigatana, as he embarks on his first day at the Saniwa's fortress. Reuniting with his longtime friend, Kashuu Kiyomitsu, the duo becomes entangled in the playful antics of their fellow sword warriors. They partake in snowball fights, introducing new comrades to the fortress, and always seeking out chances to enjoy themselves. Nevertheless, the swords stand always prepared to defend history when called upon by the government.
