Zoids were once used as weapons of war, but now they are strictly used in organized competitions. The Blitz Team, a group of pilots striving for recognition in the Zoid battling scene, stumble upon a talented wandering junk dealer named Bit Cloud, who possesses an exceptional ability to control the stubborn Zoid, Liger Zero. With Bit and Liger by their side, the Blitz Team gradually ascend the ranks, but their success incites the wrath of the Backdraft Group - a faction of Zoid pilots who reject the rules set by the Zoid Battle Commission. The Backdraft desire powerful Zoids to augment their strength, and they covet the Liger Zero above all else.
