An anime adaption of the final arc in the Mushishi manga portrays Ginko's meeting with Kaya, a young girl on top of a mountain with foliage growing from her body. He discovers she is the lord of the mountain and wonders how she, a human, came to hold this position. During his journey, he reconnects Kaya with her older brother who had been looking for her since her disappearance on an unsteady day. The plot explores Kaya's internal conflict of choosing between fulfilling her responsibilities as a mushi lord and returning to her beloved family.
