Otonokizaka High School is facing a critical situation, with a continuous decrease in the number of students enrolling each year. The school is at risk of closing down once the current first-year batch graduates. Honoka Kousaka, a second-year student, refuses to let this happen without a fight. Her search for a solution leads her to discover A-RISE, a popular school idol group, and inspires her to create an idol group of her own. Honoka, with the help of her childhood friends Umi Sonoda and Kotori Minami, forms μ's to increase the school's popularity and promote it. However, the journey is not a smooth one. Student council president Eri Ayase is firmly against the establishment of an idol group and will stop at nothing to halt its creation. Honoka and her friends also struggle to attract new members to their group. The Love Live competition, which seeks to find the best and most beloved school idol groups in Japan, presents μ's with an opportunity to gain the attention they desperately need. With the contest on the horizon, Honoka must act quickly and efficiently to build a successful idol group and win the Love Live to save Otonokizaka High School.
