For a prolonged period of time, the Niflheim Empire has been in conflict with the kingdom of Lucis. The Empire longs to claim the last known Crystal, residing in Insomnia, the capital of Lucis. To ensure the city's protection, King Regis Lucis Caelum CXIII uses the Crystal's power to erect a mystical barrier and establishes the Kingsglaive, an elite military unit that fends off Lucis' antagonists. Nyx, a member of the Kingsglaive, is renowned as "The Hero" for his gallantry and overconfidence. Despite being demoted for disregarding his captain's orders, Nyx reluctantly defends the city gates. However, things take a turn when whispers of Regis' intention to strike a peace treaty with their adversaries start to surface.
