The game takes place on the continent of Babel, dominated by the Tower of Babel, with seven nations intertwined. After alchemy was utilized as a weapon of warfare and nearly wiped out humanity, an uneasy truce was established amongst the seven nations, and alchemy was banned for centuries. Nevertheless, in the year 911 of the Continental Calendar, Lustrice broke the treaty by forming an army powered by alchemy, hungry for supremacy over the continent. Envylia led the other six nations to join forces to defeat the rebels, pushing alchemy back into obscurity. But after 20 years of peace, alchemy once again wreaks havoc on the continent.
