The mission assigned to Rin Toosaka and Luviagelita "Luvia" Edelfelt, members of the Mage's Association, involves retrieving seven medieval artifacts called Class Cards which contain the life essence of legendary Heroic Spirits. In order to accomplish this task, they are bestowed with the power of Ruby and Sapphire - two Kaleidosticks that transform them into magical girls and greatly enhance their abilities. Sadly, the two mages are constantly at odds, which causes the Kaleidosticks to desert them in search of new masters. They stumble upon Illyasviel von Einzbern and Miyu, two young schoolgirls, and easily persuade them to enter into a contract. Given their enhanced abilities and increased responsibilities, Illya and Miyu embark on a journey to locate all of the Class Cards.
