Across Japan's major cities, a masked samurai embarks on a killing spree, claiming the lives of five men. The Genjibotaru, a notorious group of thieves who stole Buddhist artifacts and claimed to serve Minomoto no Yoshitune, were the victims. Despite the authorities' investigation, there are no clear leads or motives for the murders until Kogorou Mouri receives an anonymous letter requesting assistance in solving a puzzle to locate a missing statue from a temple in Kyoto. Conan Edogawa and high school detective Heiji Hattori collaborate to solve the case, with Hattori also searching for his long-lost childhood love. As they meander through the streets of Kyoto, yet another Genjibotaru member becomes a victim of the rogue samurai, and Hattori's life is put in danger on several occasions. The two detectives must work together to uncover hidden clues, halt the samurai's violent rampage, and save Hattori's cherished one.
