Arete, a princess, is imprisoned in a tower by her father. While she gazes out the window, and occasionally observes the commoners at work, knights compete to marry her and become the next ruler by finding powerful magical artifacts crafted by sorcerers who are no longer alive. However, Arete doesn't care about any of this. She longs to travel far away and meet the commoners she has read about in secret books hidden under her bed. One day, a sorcerer named Boax arrives in a magnificent flying machine and proposes to marry Arete and make her a real princess.
