Yato, a deity of low rank, goes through a rough patch as his indolent colleague abruptly departs, leaving him without earnings, devotees, or a sanctuary. At his nadir, a serendipitous bus crash brings him into contact with Hiyori Iki, a happy-go-lucky high schooler whose soul often becomes detached from her body. Unintentionally, Yato agrees to assist her in returning to her ordinary self, bringing her into contact with the spirit and deities' realm. Regrettably, Yato's previous life catches up to him as an ancient god reappears and seeks revenge.
