Previously considered mere superstitions, phantoms - unearthly creatures such as ghosts and youkai - are now proven to actually exist with the spread of a brain-infecting virus. The next generation is affected in a unique way, granting them special abilities that can be used to combat these dangerous entities. Among them are Haruhiko Ichijou, who can summon and seal phantoms through his drawings, and Mai Kawakami, who infuses martial arts with elemental powers. They are part of Hosea Academy's Team E, working alongside the friendly phantom Ruru to handle the various trouble caused by these unpredictable beings in a world where reality and fantasy converge.
