Years ago, during a magic performance, Atsuko or "Akko" Kagari, was given magical advice by her idol, the famous witch Shiny Chariot. Shiny Chariot told her that a believing heart is her magic, advice which Akko has lived by ever since. Akko aspires to be a witch just like Shiny Chariot, one that can make people happy. Despite not coming from a magical background, she is still determined to enroll at Luna Nova Magical Academy. However, Akko's journey to her new school is fraught with challenges. After a perilous journey, she becomes friends with Lotte Yansson, a shy girl, and Sucy Manbavaran, who has a sarcastic personality. She discovers Shiny Chariot's wand, the Shiny Rod and takes it as her own. However, Akko's time at Luna Nova is far from easy. She refuses to be inferior to her peers, especially Diana Cavendish, her self-proclaimed rival, who is both beautiful and gifted. Akko relies on her determination to make up for her reckless behavior and lack of magical skills. Little Witch Academia tells the story of Akko and her friends as they learn what it really means to be a witch at a time when wizardry is on the decline.
