Koto maker Gen Kudou doubts that his troubled grandson Chika could ever fully comprehend the beauty of the traditional instrument. In a bid to make amends for his ignorance and honour his grandfather's memory, Chika strives to become a member of the Koto Club at Tokise High School. Despite the club's desperate need for additional members, the newly-appointed president, Takezou Kurata, is hesitant to grant Chika's request due to his troubled past. However, upon observing Chika's ardent determination and passion, Takezou relents and welcomes him into the club alongside koto prodigy Satowa Houzuki and three other lively companions. Follow the merry musical troupe of Kono Oto Tomare as they aspire to perform at the national competition.
