The invasion of a neighboring country by Germania in 1939 led to a catastrophic war in Europe. In the course of the war, Germania targeted the small alpine nation of Elystadt, which was expected to fall easily to their superior military might. Matters worsened for the country as the Germanians captured Princess Ortfiné "Finé" Fredericka von Eylstadt en route to an important meeting with Britannia. However, an unexpected turn of events occurred when Izetta, the last surviving witch, escaped during a botched Germanian transport mission. On recognizing Princess Finé from her childhood, Izetta utilized her magical abilities to rescue her from the Germanian soldiers. After reuniting with the princess, Izetta vowed to protect Elystadt from Germania. With the last witch remaining by their side, Elystadt hoped to overcome the imperialist war giant.
