As a first-year student at Ishido Middle School, Rei Kigata remains unconvinced of paranormal phenomena and the existence of supernatural entities. One evening, while sound asleep, he receives a strange newspaper called "Horror News." The publication foretells the death of one of his instructors in a car accident the next day, which Rei is destined to witness. Although he doubts the prediction, it proves accurate, and the newspaper procures his doorstep without fail. Rei becomes increasingly troubled, however, upon learning that reading it will reduce his lifespan by 100 days each time. The spine-chilling periodical plagues him henceforth.
