Kei Agemaki, an officer with a prestigious military background, has always been gripped by a deep-seated terror of supernatural beings. This phobia is put to the ultimate test when he is reassigned, along with two other fellow officers, to live and work amongst youkai creatures under the Ministry of Spirit Affairs. Kei must face his worst nightmare head-on, but with the aid of a fox spirit known as Kushimatsu, he and his team must unite with youkai maidens Zakuro, Susukihotaru, Hoozuki, and Bonbori to uncover paranormal cases. Otome Youkai Zakuro is set in an alternate universe during Japan's westernization period, blurring the boundaries of east and west, local and foreign, and gender norms through an unorthodox partnership between female youkai and human officers. As society rapidly evolves, they must learn to adjust and cooperate despite their variations.
