Fast forward to present day, where high school student Yuusaku Fujiki, playing under the guise of Playmaker, chances upon a peculiar artificial intelligence program while engaging in a virtual duel in Link Vrains. Alongside his scheming cohort Shouichi Kusanagi, they unite with this mysterious being to unravel a longstanding mystery dating back to years ago.
