Similar to the Advanced Generation and Diamond & Pearl series, the Best Wishes! series starts with Satoshi and Pikachu journeying to the Isshu region, which is distant from Kanto, Johto, Houen, and Sinnoh. Once there, Satoshi teams up with his new rival Shooty and the region's Professor Araragi. They are later joined by Iris, a female trainer from a town famous for Dragon-type Pokémon, and Dent, a Pokémon Connoisseur and one of the Sanyou City Gym Leaders who specializes in Grass Pokémon.
