The story of Yobi, The Five Tailed Fox, follows the adventures of a mythical kumiho creature from Korean folklore with the ability to shape-shift into a human form. In contrast to the traditional representation of the kumiho as a seductive and dangerous being, the protagonist of the story is a kind and youthful fox with five tails instead of the usual nine. Yobi's family was exterminated by fox hunters, leaving her to live in a forest with a group of aliens whose spaceship had crashed there. However, when one of her extraterrestrial friends is captured by a local villager, Yobi must venture out into the human world to rescue him. Along the way, she encounters many humans, including Geum Yee, a student at a school for troubled youth, whom she admires. Yobi decides to attend the school to better understand human culture, but her efforts are thwarted by both an enigmatic shadow figure and a determined fox hunter.
