The story takes place in a time when trade federations reign supreme in the solar system and are continuously at odds with one another. Akira, a resident of Japan who feels constrained by his homeland, decides to join the orbital drop infantry unit of a trade federation based on the suggestion of his military cook buddy, Pupkin. These troops are known for their high mortality rate of 70% and are colloquially referred to as "Yakitori," indicating their expendability.
