On her first day of work, Narumi Momose faced a problem with waking up and ended up oversleeping, leaving her with little time to prepare. She was determined to keep her otaku and fujoshi interests a secret from her new coworkers. However, things took a surprising turn when she ran into her old middle school friend, Hirotaka Nifuji, on her way to work. To avoid any potential embarrassment, Narumi hastily invited him out for drinks that evening. Despite her intentions, her attempt to keep her secret failed when Hirotaka quickly discovered her passion for the Summer Comiket. Fortunately, Hanako Koyanagi and Tarou Kabakura, two fellow otakus, were present to hear Narumi's confession. After work, Narumi and Hirotaka reunited for drinks and caught up on their years apart. Narumi lamented her recent breakup with a boyfriend who did not appreciate her fujoshi interests. Hirotaka suggested that she should date an otaku instead and proposed himself as the ideal candidate. He promised to always be there for her, even during their hunts for rare drops in Monster Hunter. Narumi was taken aback by Hirotaka's bold proposal but ultimately accepted. Thus began their endearing relationship as otakus.
