Yui, who goes by the nickname "Cherry" Sakura, finds it easier to express himself through haiku which he writes and shares on the internet. Unfortunately, his poems often go unnoticed. He spends his summer working part-time at a welfare facility as his family prepares to move in August. On the other hand, Yuki, also known as "Smile" Hoshino, strives to spread happiness as an aspiring influencer despite feeling self-conscious about her prominent braces and protruding front teeth. In order to conceal them, she wears a disposable mask. By chance, Smile meets Cherry at the facility where they both work. They collaborate to help an elderly man named Fujiyama find a precious vinyl record before he forgets about it. Only the record's sleeve and the term "yamazakura" serve as clues, as they search through the scorching summer weather.
