During his summer visit with his aunt, Shou discovers an extraordinary secret as he chases her cat into the bushes. He catches a glimpse of a miniature girl, no larger than his fingertip, who goes by the name of Arrietty. Arrietty is a member of the "Borrowers," a group that subsists on small castoffs from humans. Residing in the home's basement with her parents, Pod and Homily, Arrietty captivates Shou with her uniqueness. Whilst Shou is excited about his new neighbors, he remains unaware of the daily challenges faced by the Borrowers. To earn a livelihood, they must perform hazardous tasks in and around human territory. Against her parents' advice, Arrietty disregards the dangers of a friendship with Shou, unleashing a multitude of unforeseen consequences that could drastically alter their futures.
