The Usagiyama Shopping District is home to a close-knit group of business owners, including Tamako Kitashirakawa, a charming but clumsy teenager from a family of mochi bakers who operate the popular Tama-ya store. One day, Tamako meets a talking bird, Dera Mochimazzi, who introduces himself as a royal envoy from a distant nation on a quest to locate a princess for his prince. However, after indulging in too much mochi, Dera becomes too heavy to return home and takes up residence with Tamako's family before becoming the district's beloved mascot. Meanwhile, Tamako's friend Mochizou Ooji struggles with unrequited love for her. Despite their fathers being bitter rivals in the mochi industry, will this rivalry drive a wedge between Tamako and Mochizou? Additionally, what will happen to Dera's pursuit of finding the perfect bride for his prince?
