After a string of unfortunate events leaves him in dire poverty, You Keika works tirelessly at multiple part-time jobs to claw his way out. Then fate takes a sudden and unexpected turn when he meets a white-haired man in a junkyard. During their encounter, You realizes he's died and been reborn as a spirit. The man, Tanmoku Ki, turns out to be the 13th Youmeshi of China's respected Tanmoki exorcist family. Seeing You's confusion, Ki offers him a mutually beneficial pact: Ki will protect You from dangers posed by humans, and You will be Ki's spirit shadow, guarding him at all times. Together, they brave the ghostly realm and battle evil spirits while safeguarding the people around them. As their bond deepens and their roles evolve beyond master and servant, they develop a newfound respect and admiration for each other.
