Taking place in Neo Tokyo during the year G.C. (Galaxy Century) 0051, which marks fifty years since initial contact was established, the anime follows the adventures of Robby Yarge, a self-proclaimed freelance reportage writer in his thirties. Unfortunately, Robby's luck seems to have run out as he experiences a string of misfortunes, including the loss of his job, his girlfriend leaving him, a near-death traffic accident, and debt collectors on his tail. When a thief snatches Robby's bag, he receives help from an unlikely source – an 18-year-old part-time worker named Hatchi Kita who apprehends the criminal and returns Robby's belongings. Grateful for Hatchi's assistance, Robby treats him to a meal, despite realizing how vastly different their personalities are. However, Hatchi unexpectedly reappears in Robby's life - this time as a debt collector for loan shark Yan. A cat-and-mouse game ensues, involving Yan's Finance president Yan and his subordinates Aro and Gra. In an attempt to escape, Robby evades Hatchi and flees into space with his sights set on Isekandar, a legendary planet in the Milky Way that reportedly brings happiness to those who visit it. Yet, Robby soon discovers that Hatchi has stowed away on-board his spaceship, resulting in the duo embarking on an intergalactic journey together in search of Isekandar.
