Hotaru Ichijou’s entire way of life transforms when her family packs up and moves to the remote Asahigaoka village from the bustling Tokyo. At her new school, there are just a handful of students, including herself, huddled together in one classroom no matter their grades. The area lacks any convenience stores, and waiting for the bus can sometimes take hours. Nevertheless, Hotaru becomes enamored with the idyllic countryside thanks to her four schoolmates, each unique in their own right, with whom she rapidly forges a strong bond. Renge Miyauchi, the first-grader full of colorful personality, possesses an exceptional insight beyond her years. The Koshigaya siblings hold just as much intrigue, with the older brother, Suguru, being the quiet one, followed by the petite Komari and the playful youngest sister, Natsumi. Hotaru’s arrival from the city energizes the amiable little group, adding a new dimension to their routine lives in Asahigaoka.
