Although he appears aloof and unfeeling, 14-year-old Rokujou Miharu has a conniving side that comes to light at times. He wields an extraordinary ability, known as "Shinrabanshou," which is coveted by the various ninja clans of Nabari who aspire to reign supreme. Miharu's fellow student Kouichi and his English instructor Kumohira are both members of the Banten clan of ninjas who have pledged their allegiance to him and will guard him against all threats. Despite his initial lack of interest, Miharu eventually becomes a member of their ninja "club" after a series of assaults, as it becomes imperative for him to do so to safeguard his own life. As he progresses, Miharu draws closer to achieving his ultimate objective of becoming the king of Nabari.
