Legend has it that the Monkey King was an unbeatable warrior, possessing phenomenal strength that allowed him unrestricted passage through Heaven, Earth, and Hell. Nevertheless, he was imprisoned in a frigid enclosure beneath a mountain range after contravening some of the Gods' most momentous laws, and only the mightiest could subjugate him. When the Monkey King disappeared, China was plunged into darkness. A young boy, fleeing from marauding monsters that besieged his hamlet, looked for shelter in the mountains. It was there that he chanced upon a mystifying frozen column bound in chains. By dismissing the enchantment and coming into contact with the ice, he triggered the sequence of occurrences that resulted in Monkey King: Hero is Back.
