Saenome is tasked with containing tsukumogami - spirits that inhabit objects and have the potential to pose a danger to society. Although these spirits are usually mild-mannered and can be pacified through communication, Hyouma Kunato's encounter with a malevolent tsukumogami has led him to rely on physical force to subdue any he comes across. This approach is not deemed acceptable by Zouhei, Hyouma's grandfather and the head of their clan, who believes that a future leader should have a broader perspective. Zouhei proposes to Hyouma that he should temporarily reside with Botan Nagatsuki, a member of a family of six tsukumogami. Although Hyouma is initially hesitant, he ultimately agrees to the plan with the aim of finding the spirit that took everything from him. As he strives to gain Botan's trust and overcome his aversion to her family, Hyouma is also confronted with evil spirits that pose a threat to the delicate balance of the world.
