Yurie Hitotsubashi led a typical life during the laid-back 1980s as a middle schooler residing in Onomichi, a city in Japan situated on the inland sea. Her primary concerns included excelling in exams and capturing Kenji's attention. However, during lunch with her friend Mitsue, Yurie confided that she had awakened as a goddess the previous night. Matsuri, their classmate, saw an opportunity to promote her family's failing Shinto shrine by exploiting Yurie's newfound divinity. By replacing the local deity, Yashima-sama, with Yurie, she hoped to increase the shrine's popularity and profit. Subsequently, Yurie had to juggle school life, grant wishes, remove curses, interact with extraterrestrials, participate in god conventions and work up the courage to confess her feelings to Kenji.
