Ryosuke Takahashi, the leader of RedSuns, approaches Takumi with an offer to form a professional racing team. Takumi, however, decides to seek retribution first by challenging Kyouichi Sudou, the leader of Emperor who had defeated him earlier due to engine failure. Another challenge comes from Kai Kogashiwa, a second-generation street racer whose father had been a fierce rival of Takumi's father Bunta.
