Takumi Fujiwara, known for his AE86 and numerous victories, is a rising star in the street racing world. Unfortunately, his confidence in winning at Mount Akina is dwindling with the arrival of the Emperor team, who exclusively use the highly favored Mitsubishi Lancer Evolutions, also known as Lan Evos. The Emperor team leader, Kyouichi Sudou, has an elitist philosophy and looks down on Takumi for driving an outdated car that lacks the necessary components of a modern race car. Kyouichi's philosophy also explains why his team consists solely of Lan Evo drivers. Now, Takumi is faced with the daunting task of protecting his unbeatable record against the mechanically superior and highly skilled Emperor team.
