As a freshman in high school, Houtarou Oreki has a simple goal - to lead a plain and uneventful life while conserving as much energy as possible. Unfortunately, his plans are thwarted when his older sister Tomoe asks him to help save the Classics Club from being disbanded due to a shortage of members. Fortunately, Oreki discovers that Eru Chitanda, a classmate of his, is already a member and this seems to solve his problems. However, Oreki finds himself drawn into Chitanda's lively and inquisitive nature, and decides to join the club on his own. Hyouka follows the journey of the four Classics Club members, including Oreki's friends Satoshi Fukube and Mayaka Ibara, as they utilize Chitanda's never-ending curiosity to tackle small but intriguing mysteries that crop up in their everyday lives.
