Once their work at Yorknew City is finished, Leorio Paladiknight and Kurapika set out to investigate sightings of a boy with scarlet red eyes. They are hopeful that this individual might be a member of their now-extinct Kurta Clan. However, Kurapika is devastated when he loses both his eyes in an attack by someone he believed to be a childhood friend. Leorio comes to his aid and summons Gon Freecss and Killua Zoldyck to help find Kurapika's missing eyes. The search leads them to the infamous Phantom Troupe, a group of thieves responsible for the massacre of the entire Kurta Clan. In the Hunter x Hunter movie, Phantom Rouge, the boys must delve deeper into the Troupe's past in their quest to catch the thief and retrieve Kurapika's eyes. Along the way, they encounter a mysterious girl who appears to be connected to it all. Kurapika hopes to find another surviving member of the Kurta Clan, but instead, they discover a web of secrets and danger.
