Numerous magical "Artifacts" were stolen years ago and scattered worldwide, falling into the hands of unsuspecting individuals who brought misfortune upon themselves by misusing their power. However, the Hoshisato family are a clan of magicians with exclusive access to the Artifacts, taking responsibility for their retrieval and rightful placement. Kana "Hatena" Hoshisato, despite lacking experience, is eager to assist her parents, Mamoru and Maeve, in their mission while also striving to improve her own abilities. Her childhood friend, Makoto Shiranui, arrives at their estate to study magic under her father's mentorship, keeping a promise made years prior. Hatena is thrilled to reunite with her pal after all these years, only to be disheartened when she discovers Makoto, who she had assumed was a girl, is actually a boy. Soon after, Makoto learns of the Artifacts and the true identities of the magicians in his life. Nevertheless, he remains unfazed, steadfast in his endeavours to fulfill his promises and learn magic for the betterment of those around him. Most importantly, he hopes to become the kind of person deserving of being Hatena's partner.
