2045 marks the era of significant advancements in artificial intelligence. Nations have weaponized them in their relentless pursuit of sustaining their economies through perpetual warfare. Major Motoko Kusanagi leads GHOST, a mercenary group that navigates this dangerous terrain with ease. However, the rapid pace of innovation brings forth a new peril. After leaving Public Security Section 9, Kusanagi and her team engage in a range of global operations tied to proxy wars. Their latest mission, tracking an arms dealer, lures them into a hidden conflict with "post-humans", who possess inexplicable intellectual and physical capabilities. Labelled a new species, these post-humans trigger a sequence of events, culminating in the reunion of Section 9. With a fresh objective, Kusanagi and her restored team must prevent the post-humans from causing global catastrophe.
