Nikuko-chan, the lively and plump woman frequently found operating the grill, resides in a small town in the northern part of the region. She has roamed to many places and been involved with various men but has finally taken root on a houseboat with her namesake daughter. Nevertheless, they face a struggle establishing their position in the world. Nikuko-chan's daring actions propel her toward her aspirations, but her introverted daughter, Kikuko, often recoils from her mother's conduct. Kikuko's existence as a teenager is marked with difficulties, from navigating school to deciphering the enigma of her curious classmate Ninomiya.
