College freshman Keitarou Gentouga despises ghosts, yet he attracts them effortlessly. His unusual connection to the spirit world resulted in a spiritual injury on his right hand two years ago, leaving him with poor social skills and aggravating his phobia. Fortunately, his childhood friend Eiko Houzuki has been helping him overcome his anxieties and mingle with society. As part of his rehabilitation, Keitarou takes on a job as a private tutor, with his first pupil being none other than Eiko's cousin, the child prodigy Yayoi Houzuki. Despite their similarities in having a spiritual constitution, Yayoi is intrigued by spirits and longs to find the one that took her mother. Keitarou reluctantly goes on ghost hunts with Yayoi and Eiko, and his part-time job is starting to become less relevant to his original intentions.
