Uruno, a directionless wolf, journeyed to discover a new territory to claim as his own. He stumbled upon a forest brimming with "ineffective animals" - creatures who failed to embody their usual traits. A tussle with the cranky and smoking Usahara, a rabbit, did not deter Uruno from wanting to leave. However, his mindset changed once he encountered Chiiko, an awkward cheetah girl. Uruno fell head over paws for her instantly and opted to remain for her sake. Despite being perceived as incompetent, he aspired to win her heart someday, as long as he wasn't sidetracked by the rest of the peculiar group of forest inhabitants. They consisted of the aforementioned smoking rabbit, a sake-drinking unicorn, a falcon with deficient vision, an orca unable to swim, and a timid pegasus.
