SUMMARY
Taking place in 19th century China, during the crumbling Qing Dynasty, the plot follows a fictional era called "The Era of the Cooking Wars." During this time, notable chefs with distinct culinary styles fiercely compete to claim the title of ultimate culinary champion of China. In a country where disrespect or carelessness toward a renowned chef's abilities might result in imprisonment, deceiving a top chef equals rebellion. These chefs fight for more than just respect, striving for power, putting everything on the line. China is separated into four primary regions: Beijing, Szechuan, Shanghai, and Guangdong. The story begins in Mao's home province of Szechuan following the loss of his mother, Pai, revered as the 'Fairy of Cuisine.' Determined to claim his role as Master Chef at her eatery by becoming a Super Chef, Mao sets out to uncover various cooking styles throughout China, aspiring to reach his mother's legendary status. On his journey, he forms lasting bonds with new friends and fierce competitors who repeatedly challenge him in the art of cooking.
