In the Edo or Tokugawa period (1600-1868), a wandering samurai woman named Ran traversed the country with her skillful use of the katana sword and love for rice wine or sake. Her companion on the journey was Lady Meow, an expert in the Chinese martial art of Iron Cat Fist. Their adventures were chronicled in individual parts of Tsukikage Ran.
