The world is divided into two halves - Inside and Outside. The inhabitants of each are warned against ever crossing over to the other side as it could bring upon them a curse. On the Outside resides a young girl named Shiva; she lives in an unoccupied village and is watched over by a demon guardian going by the name of "Teacher". Despite the prohibition against physical contact, the bond between the two seems unbreakable, even though they are vastly dissimilar in appearance. However, things take a turn when Shiva decides to depart from Teacher's guardianship to look for her grandmother, and the truth behind their unusual living arrangement is finally revealed.
