Similar to the previous Advanced Generation and Diamond & Pearl series, Satoshi embarks on a journey to the Isshu region with only his Pikachu, leaving behind Kanto, Johto, Houen, and Sinnoh. He meets Shooty, his new trainer and rival, along with Professor Araragi. Later, he is joined by Iris, a resident of a town famous for Dragon Pokémon, and Dent, a Pokémon Connoisseur who specializes in Grass Pokémon and is one of three Gym Leaders in Sanyou City.
