In the year 21XX, Reploids have become a common sight following Dr. Cain's recovery of Dr. Light's former laboratory. Taking inspiration from Dr. Light's original design, "Megaman X," several Reploids have since been created. In the meantime, X has enlisted as a Maverick Hunter, teaming up with Zero under the direction of General Sigma. Together, their mission is to eliminate dangerous rogue Reploids.
