For centuries, the Toji, a group of shrine maidens, have dedicated their efforts towards protecting humanity from the dangerous Aratama. In modern times, they work with a specialized police unit to eliminate these threats. To ensure a continued supply of skilled sword fighters to the Toji ranks, the government has set up five renowned schools throughout the country. At Minoseki Academy, trainee Kanami Etou is selected to participate in a sword fighting competition. It is during this tournament that she crosses paths with the enigmatic Hiyori Juujou. As the competition progresses, their confrontation unexpectedly spirals out of control, wreaking havoc on the Toji world. Betrayed by someone among their own, Kanami and Hiyori are forced to flee from the tournament, pursued by their former colleagues who seek to bring them to justice. With the Toji's security now in jeopardy, their mission of safeguarding humanity is more important than ever before.
