Following the death of Inu no Taishou, his offspring Sesshoumaru and Inuyasha acquired his prized swords Tenseiga and Tessaiga, yet the whereabouts of a third sword remained a mystery. Upon visiting his comrade Kagome Higurashi in the present day, Inuyasha stumbled upon his father's enigmatic blade Sounga, which had been cherished at the Higurashi shrine for generations since Kagome's ancestor found it in the mystical well bridging the past and future. However, the sword concealed an evil force with a never-ending thirst for blood, and Inuyasha struggled to curtail its malevolent power before returning it to the feudal era. Here, he encountered his envious brother Sesshoumaru, who lusted after the sword for himself. During their violent battle over Sounga, the sword vanished, obliging the siblings to join forces and track it down. Yet unbeknownst to them, the sword harbored a clandestine that could change their lives and preserve their father's heritage.
