Born in a graveyard, Kitarou is a young youkai boy, and the sole surviving member of the Ghost tribe, aside from his decomposing father. Although he is blind in one eye, his unruly hair typically conceals the empty socket. His mission is to promote harmony between humans and youkai, often by safeguarding the former from the malicious intentions of the latter. This particular rendition of Kitarou's tale draws inspiration from the initial Hakaba Kitarou manga, which sparked the beloved Gegege no Kitarou franchise during the late 1960s.
