Sena Kobayakawa is a quiet, unassuming student at Deimon High School who often falls victim to bullying due to his reserved nature and small size. However, his life of running errands has honed his agility and provided him with a talent for avoiding large crowds. One day, the observant captain of the Deimon Devil Bats football team, Youichi Hiruma, recognizes Sena's incredible speed and cajoles him into joining the team. To keep Sena's identity hidden from rival clubs, Hiruma requires him to wear a visored helmet and take on the moniker "Eyeshield 21." This enigmatic running back wears the number 21 jersey and is said to reach speeds equivalent to the velocity of light. Eyeshield 21 is renowned for his astonishing achievements during his time playing for Notre Dame College in the United States. Sena's habit of evading confrontations in the past may just turn out to be his greatest asset, as it enables him to become the Deimon Devil Bats' secret weapon. As he interacts with his new teammates, Sena gradually develops more self-confidence and forges meaningful bonds with those around him.
