Naofumi Iwatani, a lackluster Otaku who indulges in games and manga, is abruptly summoned to another realm. He learns that he is one of the four heroes chosen to wield legendary weapons and destined to rescue the world from its foretold doom. Despite being the weakest of the heroes and the Shield Hero, Naofumi soon realizes that not everything is as it appears. Betrayed and bankrupt, he is left to fend for himself with just his shield.
